40 years. Wow. Just read this. Good read. Lots of truths in it. Maybe truths that never happened, as you might say, but truths none the less.
I'm in Oakmont these days. I drive down Allegheny River Blvd. daily. Every time I am driving down that street, I struggle to remember which house was that studio. I think I have it narrowed down to a couple, but I can't be sure.
The best things about the band, to me, outside of the sheer adventure of it, and the misadventure of it, were the acquaintances and friendships that formed. I still talk to and interact with some of those folks, mostly online, but occasionally a personal meeting, usually by chance.
Our paths have been much different. Same can be said for the paths of the other members. Some days I miss Kevin Horan (RIP).
I'm still doin some music. About 150-200 gigs a year. Much different than what we used to play, but I enjoy it and it pays most of the bills at the end of the day.
I've played with a lot of different musicians over the years and made a bunch of music. None of it will stand the test of time, but I'm still proud of every note I ever played and every song I've ever sung. I've played with people who were more skilled than we were, but SMD will always hold a special place for me. I know, I'm more nostalgic than everyone else who was in the band, but that's just the way I am.
Take care Jim. We may not always see everything eye to eye, but my door is always open to you.
SMD was fun. For us, and for those who took the haphazard ride with us. And that's one thing this world just never has enough of.
well well well. i'm sorry to hear about Kevin. That's too bad. thank you for the kind words about the essay; it came with a cassette of "disunited & wrong". an edition of 23 copies. i live very quietly now.
